Automatic Translations with AiTranslate

With AiTranslate, authors decide for each piece of content which languages it should be available in. Suitable language models generate the translations automatically – with no one having to maintain parallel versions. Learners then pick the language they want to view the content in.

AiTranslate is a tenant-wide feature that must be switched on by MILES. If you’d like it enabled for your organization, get in touch with us.

Every author-written text in your content is translated automatically:

  • Course, unit, learning phase, exercise, and learning objective titles and descriptions
  • Task descriptions, answer options, and hints in exercises
  • Content blocks inside learning phases
  • Image alt text

The following are not translated:

  • Text that is part of an image
  • Audio or embedded videos

You decide for each piece of content which languages it should be available in. You’ll find the feature in a course’s edit view, under the “Translations” tab – from there, you can activate the desired translations with a single click. AiTranslate takes care of the rest:

  • Quickly created: Within a few minutes, translations are live and ready for learners.
  • Always in sync: When you update the source text, the translation regenerates automatically. Learners always see a version that matches the current source.
  • Multilingual reach: Reach learners in their preferred language with content you only need to author once.
  • No maintenance: Content is authored once in the original language – AiTranslate takes care of every translated version.

Learners can switch the content language from any level of a course: the course itself, a content unit, a learning phase, or an individual exercise. The choice always applies to the whole parent course – picking a language inside one exercise updates the entire course around it.

Learners can pick from all languages for which an author has activated a translation. Switching back to the original (or to another available translation) is possible at any time.

Where it makes sense, MILES automatically suggests a matching translation – for example, when a learner’s interface language doesn’t match the original content language.

AiTranslate also works inside assessments. The whole assessment can be switched to any language that every contained course has been translated into. When building an assessment, authors or managers should therefore make sure the desired target languages are covered across all included courses.

To enable this, first turn on the assessment option “Allow participants to choose their preferred language”. Managers can then review the available languages in the assessment’s Translations tab and add more as needed.

The assessment evaluation shows the language each learner used to answer a given question, so results from multilingual courses can be interpreted without ambiguity.

AiTranslate supports the same set of languages as the platform interface. If a language you need is missing, let us know – once added, it becomes available both in the interface and in AiTranslate.
